When Fire is Imminent

Minutes Count in the Wildland/Urban Interface

FIVE BASIC STEPS

For Home & Human Survival

STEP ONE
Step 1:  call for help
Call your local fire responder/s.
STEP TWO
Step 2:  Create fire retarding environment.
Prepare your home:
  • Close all perimeter doors & windows
  • Close all interior doors
  • Close garage door/s
  • Close all vents
  • Install metal cover on chimney stack/s
  •  Close window shutters, drapes, venetian blinds
  • Turn off propane tank valve/s
  • Switch off main electrical panel
 
STEP THREE
Step 3:  gather fire fighting tools.
Set-up and activate your “Initial Attack” Fire Equipment:
  • Fire Pump
  • Suction Hose / Foot Valve & Strainer
  • Fire Hose & Nozzle
  • Roof Top Sprinkler/s
  • Ground Area Sprinkler/s
STEP FOUR
Step 4:  Wet down to retard flammability.
Soak down hard to get to areas or other spots of concerns around the home:
  • Under Porches / Decks
  • Vents
  • Gable Ends
  • Under Eaves
  • Under Balconies
  • Wood Piles
  • Propane Tank/s
STEP FIVE
Step 5:  Prepare for evacuation.
Prepare to initiate your evacuation plan.
